Calligraphy Retreat in Brandenburg - 2 & 3 August

Join us for a peaceful 2-day retreat where we focus on the beauty of Copperplate calligraphy — learning step-by-step how to form elegant letters and create a personal piece of art. Surrounded by nature, you’ll have time to slow down, practice mindfully, and enjoy the creative process.

What to expect:

• Learn the basics of Copperplate calligraphy — structure, rhythm, and flow

• Practice mindful, peaceful writing with pen and ink

• Explore how calligraphy meets watercolor in the practical part to create unique, personal artworks

• Design and complete a final piece (for example, a framed quote, poem, or greeting card)

Who is it for?

Anyone who wants to discover or deepen their love for calligraphy — no prior experience needed!

Meet the group, get to know the farm, and set your creative intention for the weekend.

Session One: Tools, basic strokes & lowercase letters

Learn how to use the pen, nib, and ink; practice pressure, rhythm, and simple letterforms.

Session Two: Lowercase continued & connecting letters into words to create a mini artwork: bookmark/ name card

Develop flow and consistency, and start writing simple words with confidence.

Session Three: Uppercase letters & simple flourishes

Add elegance to your writing with capital letters and simple decorative elements.

Session Four: Create your final artwork

Design and complete a personal piece — for example, a favourite word, quote or greeting on prepared watercolor cards or designed paper.

Price

200 euros in a shared, beautifully rustic room of 3-5 people. Includes 6 hours of workshops and organic vegan/vegetarian meals.

180 euros if you register and pay by July 19, or have attended a previous event at our farm.

All materials (pen holder, nibs, ink, paper, watercolors) will be provided in a personal kit for you to use during the retreat and take home.

Limited double private rooms are available for an additional cost.

Location

Flämingo Farm, Fröhden

The farm is easily accessible by public transport.

Participants coming from Berlin can take a train Jüterbog and from that point take a bookable shuttle bus, or bike a 10km on a dedicated bike path to the farm.

Cancellations are possible up until a week before the retreat. After that, due to the nature of the event and that we are a small project, it is only possible to cancel if is someone on the waitlist, otherwise you can transfer your spot to a friend.

About Huong

My name is Huong Nguyen. I’m originally from Vietnam and currently work as an IT consultant — but my true passion has always been art in all its forms, and especially calligraphy.

From a young age, I loved creating with colors, shapes, and lines. But it was calligraphy that touched me in a unique way: it blends art and language, structure and expression, technique and feeling. Every letter becomes a small work of art, every stroke a mindful, intentional act.

For me, writing with pen and ink is more than just a craft — it’s a way to slow down, find stillness, and make our thoughts visible. In Copperplate calligraphy, I’ve found the perfect style to express my love of beauty, precision, and inner calm.

At this retreat, I look forward to sharing this passion with you — and helping you discover the joy of creating something truly personal with your own hands.
